As Ken Mandelbaum mentioned on August 4, Carolee Carmello will indeed star as the next Donna Sheridan in Broadway's Mamma Mia!. She will begin performances on October 20, replacing current star Dee Hoty. That same day Liz McCartney Dance of the Vampires, Taboo, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Judy McLane most recently the star of off-Broadway's Johnny Guitar, both also mentioned by Mandelbaum, are expected to begin performances as Donna's Dynamos, Rosie and Tonya, respectively.
Carmello received a 1999 Tony Award nomination and Drama Desk Award for her performance in Parade. Her other Broadway credits include 1776, Falsettos, City of Angels, Kiss Me, Kate and Urinetown. Her off-Broadway credits include Elegies, A Class Act, John and Jen, Das Barbecü, I Can Get It for You Wholesale, The Vagina Monologue and Hello Again for which she won an Obie Award.
Mamma Mia! will welcome many new cast members to the Winter Garden Theatre in October. In addition to those mentioned above, tour star Sara Kramer is set to take over the role of Sophie Sheridan.
A production spokesperson could not confirm the casting of Carmello, McCartney or McLane.
